Sunday 9th January 2022
Good Morning and welcome to a much abbreviated form of our Sunday Worship. Today in church we will be welcoming new members and inducting new elders, so our theme will be “The family of God”. We begin by singing God’s praises … “Christ is made the sure foundation…”
Two readings today, from Romans 8 and then Matthew 1.
Romans 8:12-17
12 So then, brothers, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh. 13 For if you live according to the flesh you will die, but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live. 14 For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. 15 For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!” 16 The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, 17 and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, provided we suffer with him in order that we may also be glorified with him.
Then Matthew 1:1-6
The book of the genealogy of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham.
2 Abraham was the father of Isaac, and Isaac the father of Jacob, and
Jacob the father of Judah and his brothers, 3 and Judah the father of
Perez and Zerah by Tamar, and Perez the father of Hezron, and Hezron
the father of Ram, 4 and Ram the father of Amminadab, and Amminadab
the father of Nahshon, and Nahshon the father of Salmon, 5 and Salmon
the father of Boaz by Rahab, and Boaz the father of Obed by Ruth, and
Obed the father of Jesse, 6 and Jesse the father of David the king.
Talk by Glyn – “In the family way…”
We sing : Glorious things of thee are spoken …
And we close by saying the grace for each other:
